Finding the Right Yorkie, Morkie, Shorkie, or Maltese Puppy for Emotional Support

Not Just a Puppy — A Partner in Comfort and Connection

At Lil Luxe Pups, we believe a well-bred, well-raised puppy has the potential to become much more than a pet. For many of our clients, their puppy offers calm, companionship, and emotional support — qualities often associated with emotional support animals (ESAs).

While we don’t offer formal ESA evaluations or temperament testing, our program focuses on what truly matters:

-Raising puppies in a structured, loving environment
-Prioritizing early socialization and human interaction
– Ensuring each puppy is confident, touch tolerant, and people-focused

These foundations create dogs that bond deeply, respond well to human emotion, and may be ideal for families seeking emotional connection or a potential ESA.

What Makes A Great ESA Candidate?

Not every puppy is suited to become an emotional support animal — but some naturally show the qualities that help them thrive in that role.

Through years of experience placing puppies with a wide range of families, we’ve noticed that ESA-friendly dogs often share a few things in common:

• Calm, steady energy
• Affectionate and people-oriented
• Enjoy being held and handled
• Comfortable in a variety of environments
• Naturally responsive to emotional cues

Our puppies are raised in our home, not a kennel, and are handled daily from birth. This kind of early exposure helps shape confident, secure puppies — ready to bond with their new people and thrive in a companion role.

Can You Register a Lil Luxe Pup as an ESA?

Yes, if a licensed therapist or medical provider determines that you qualify for an emotional support animal letter, you can use that letter to register your puppy as an ESA through a private organization (if desired).

While we don’t issue ESA letters or provide certification, many Lil Luxe Pups have gone on to become beloved ESA companions for both children and adults.

Planning to register a puppy as an ESA?

While there is no official government registry for emotional support animals, many therapists and providers recommend choosing puppies that are:

• Well-socialized
• People-oriented
• Emotionally resilient
• Eager to bond and serve

Our temperament evaluation helps identify these traits early. We provide all families with their puppy’s temperament profile — ideal for those pursuing emotional support animal letters, vests, or ESA registration down the line.

FAQ: Emotional Support Animal & Puppy Temperament

Do you provide emotional support animal letters?
No. ESA letters must be issued by a licensed mental health provider. However, we can help you select a temperament-tested puppy who may be a great candidate for that role.

Can I register my Lil Luxe Pup as an ESA?
Yes — if a licensed professional determines you qualify and writes a letter for an emotional support animal, you can register your dog through a private ESA registry. We do not register animals ourselves.

What makes a good ESA dog?
Confidence, emotional resilience, human focus, and calm energy — all traits we evaluate in our temperament testing process.
